Did you know that just about any bulb will grow in rocks? Neither did I until I came across an article about paper white bulbs. The article explained that as long as the bulb was always touching water and the container was heavy enough to take the weight of the plant, it would grow. I wanted to try it myself just to see, but paper whites were no where to be found since they are a winter flower. So I picked up a bag of daffodil and gladiolus bulbs and experimented with different containers and soils. Within just a few weeks, the bulbs I had set in my kitchen window had grown to almost full height.
As I was admiring the intricate web of roots that had grown from a bulb I had planted in a mason jar with little rocks, I had the idea to turn these little jars into party favors. Especially a bridal shower, personalized with the couples monogram, and a little saying like “love in bloom.” Guests could take their jars home fill them with water and watch as the flowers grow and bloom. Brides are often given the option to monogram anything and everything at their weddings, but more often then not, they choose to skip the monograms for more modern designs, even though they do still secretly want something with their initials on it. Evermine has several different monogram options to choose from. When choosing the labels for these jars I choose a style that had a natural leaf pattern that will look beautiful with the flower.
This favor would be great for any occasion really, baby shower, anniversary celebration, religious gatherings like bat mitzfas and christenings. I just hope someone out there has found inspiration for their next gathering. I get so much pleasure knowing that my ideas have taken flight!
