DENA | EDITOR AND CREATOR OF CHAI + HOME

1. Please tell us a little about yourself
I am the creator and face behind Chai & Home, a lifestyle blog and paperie for Jewish living. I am a designer by trade but decided to try my hand at blogging in an effort to explore and share beautiful Jewish traditions and celebrations.

2. How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start Chai & Home?
I have been blogging for four years. I started Chai & Home because I found there was not a single, consistent source you could go to for the full range of Jewish lifestyle: decor, food, and celebrations. Certainly, there wasn’t one that I considered had great style. There are many kosher food blogs and a lot of sources of spiritual information, but I suppose I was looking for a “Martha Jewart”! When I couldn’t find one, I decided to create it myself.

3. What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?
The Jewish calendar has eight main holidays a year and each one is so individual it is really hard to pick one. I love creating mishloach manot (gift baskets) at Purim, participating in Passover seders, and lighting the Hanukkah menorah, but I suppose if I really had to pick a single, favorite thing to do, it would be dancing with the Torah scrolls on Simchat Torah.

4. What are some helpful resources that you turn to for inspiration?
I have dozens of sources I follow but if I was on a desert island and could only take two sources for inspiration with me, one would be Martha Stewart and the other would be Pinterest. I couldn’t live without either.

5. We love that your use Evermine products! How have you used Evermine in the past?
I have used Evermine for Purim tags and most recently the Love + Light series of products at my Hanukkah party this year. Evermine products are great for injecting style in your project or celebration at a price that won’t break the bank.

6. Describe the thing that you love most about celebrating Hanukkah?
No question it would be lighting the menorahs. There is that moment of silence after the blessings are said and the menorah is lit that you ponder the journey of the Jewish people and consider how many others throughout history just did the thing that you are doing now. It is an immense experience.

7. Thank you for sharing your Jewish heritage and inspiration, how does it make you feel to be able to represent your community and inspire others?
The Jewish people are so diverse I hardly consider myself a representative, however, I am always honored when people get in touch with me and tell me how much they love Chai & Home and the inspiration they take from it. It is humbling every time.

Josephine Guicciardi is the nom de plume of our creative Evermine blogger. With romantic connections to Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved” love letters, it is in keeping with the blog’s themes of love and joy. The great composer writes the famous words “ever thine, ever mine, ever ours” to a woman who remains a mystery to this day. Two of the most likely objects of his adoration are Josephine Brunsvik and Guilietta Guicciardi, and it’s from these two women that Josephine Guicciardi draws her persona.
