Book-Themed Baby Shower
The Evermine Labels staff recently gathered at a local watering hole to celebrate the anticipated arrival of our newest member. It wasn’t by any means your typical “baby shower.” Of course, us Portlanders always have to do things a little differently, don’t we? We all met after work at the Beech Street Parlor, which is actually an old Portland home that has been transformed into a cozy little bar with antique couches and bold wallpaper in every room. But that wasn’t the only thing that set this baby shower apart. We had a nice mix of men and women in attendance and instead of traditional baby gifts, like diaper pails and footed pajamas, everyone brought their favorite children’s book, so that the new parents could get a good start at building their little one’s library.
This was a great opportunity for me to use the baby shower game idea I have had floating around in my head for quite some time. The game is “Don’t Say Baby” and traditionally each guest, as they arrive, is given a diaper pin to pin to their shirt. The rules are simply that if you say the word ‘baby’ another guest can steal your pin. The guest wearing the most pins at the end of the party receives a prize. In this Evermine Labels version of the game, instead of a plain old diaper pin, everyone was greeted with a personalized pinback button. Not only was this way cuter than a diaper pin, it was also a keepsake for everyone to take home.
While I was on our website ordering the buttons, I came up with a few more clever ideas for the shower too. I made coasters for guests to write advice to the new parents. Mom-to-be thought this was a great idea and couldn’t wait to take them home, read them, and put them in her scrapbook. I also made matching bookplate labels to place inside the children’s books that were given as gifts. I left the child’s name blank, since they hadn’t chosen a name yet, so they’ll have to write that in after he is born.
After all the gifts were opened, food eaten and drinks consumed, it was easy to see that everyone had a great time, and I’m once again thankful for Evermine Labels. Not only is this company a great place to work, but it’s filled with awesome employees who have become my friends.

Hi! I absolutely adore these bookplate labels you designed! They are perfect for my sister’s book-themed shower (a boy too!) I tried to recreate the exact thing here on Ever Mine, but I can’t seem to make everything fit on the stock label the same way you did. Any recommendations on how I can get it to look like yours? My heart is set on these beautiful labels for my nephew’s new library! Thanks!
Hi Kristina,
I’m sorry it has taken me a little while to get back to you! The great thing about evermine.com is that we have a team of really awesome graphic artists and designers that are more than happy to adjust the font on your items so your order looks just the way you want it. If you know exactly how you want it to look, all you need to do is click the “design request” button on the personalization page. Tell us if you want your text laid out a certain way, or the lines to break in a certain place, or add one or two more characters than are allowed, or the letters to be larger or smaller, etc. You could add a link to the blog and say “I want it just like that” and the best part is, there is no extra charge unless you request a font or custom color! If you have any problems, just let me know and I will do everything I can to personally make sure your order is correct!
