Hello everyone! Today we’re excited to share this camp-themed (or “glamping”) birthday party for Milla’s 8th birthday. We had a blast pulling together ideas for the decorations, food, activities and favors for this party, and used our Katniss style paper goods to tie in the theme throughout the entire event. We hope you love it!
Instead of ordering our full sized invitations, we decided to put together these mini invitations using the Katniss enclosure card template. We love how they turned out, and personalized the text to give all the invitees a glimpse of the party theme.
And instead of your typical birthday cake, we made a giant, layered oatmeal cream cake. We just used our favorite oatmeal cookie recipe, and baked extra large cookies that we could layer with italian meringue, which tastes a whole lot like marshmallow cream. The best part? You can torch the edges of the meringue to give it a roasted marshmallow vibe. We topped the oatmeal cookie-cake with FREE printable cake toppers from our shop that match the Katniss style.
For a fun, cozy beverage, we brought out the crockpot and heated up some delicious hot chocolate served in enameled camping mugs. We had plenty of mini marshmallows, whipped cream and personalized Katniss coasters displayed on the side for our guests to grab from.
We also put out plenty of water bottles for thirsty guests, and packaged them in personalized wide labels to tie them in with the theme.
For the party favors, we set up a giant trail mix bar with tons of options to choose from: pretzels, pumpkin seeds, m&ms, and a variety of nuts and dried fruits. Next to the trail mix bar were our paper tin-tie bags labeled with our Katniss labels, saying “Mix your own, take it home.”
These S’more Pops were an especially nice touch, and they were super simple to put together. They could easily be packaged and made into party favors as well. We have a guide + recipe for that here.
Finally, we set up a mini teepee with all kinds of camp-themed activities. We brought in some paint for decorating sticks, colored pencils for drawing, and loads of embroidery floss for making friendship bracelets.

Hi! Love this party! What type of bags did you use for the trail mix offerings? They folded so nicely.
Thanks!
Thank you Jessica!
We just used ordinary paper bags, cut off a piece from the top and carefully folded it over.
Hope this helps!
Where did you get your brown paper bags.. They look bigger than normal lunch size ones.
Hi Jenna! They’re similar to the standard paper bags you receive at the grocery store!
I came across your beautiful party while looking for ideas for a popcorn bar. I love the idea of using large paper bags for serverware. Where did you find them? Anywhere I’ve searched sell them in packs of 500! I only need 5 max. Thanks!
Where did you get letters to make the banner camp Mila?
We made it! We recommend cutting brown construction paper so they look like twigs.
