For Father’s Day this year, I wanted to make my dad a gift that brings back memories of some of my favorite childhood father-daughter moments. So while sifting through memory lane last night, I came to the realization that it was my dad who taught me my favorite tricks in the kitchen. He was the one who first introduced me to chocolate chip cookies and homemade doughnuts, and it was because of him that I discovered the simplicity behind a delicious slice of cinnamon-sugar toast at the end of the day.

Once I remembered the cinnamon-sugar toast, I knew exactly what to do. I put together a few jars of my own cinnamon-sugar blend for him to use at home. And just to make things a little more interesting, I used different types of sugar in each jar, such as cane sugar, brown sugar, and sugar in the raw. For every 1 cup of sugar, I added around 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, and whisked together until completely combined and free of lumps. From there, I scooped the mixture into little jars that I personalized with chocolate colored tags and labels in the style Cosmopolitan. I’m planning to pair my jars of cinnamon-sugar toast topping with a big loaf of sourdough, and some good quality butter. I can’t wait to see how he reacts!
