DIY Gift: Holiday Sugar Body Scrubs
Sugar scrubs are amazing and they’re so great for your skin— especially in the dry winter months. Unfortunately they can be pretty expensive, so when I discovered how easy and cheap it is to make sugar scrubs at home I was excited to try it out.
The body scrub formula I used is incredibly simple: 1 cup exfoliate (regular white sugar), 1/2 cup liquid (coconut oil) and just a few drops of add-in scents (extracts and/or essential oils). Since it’s getting close to the Christmas I thought it would be fun to try making some sugar scrubs with holiday-inspired scents to gift to family and friends. The final result was amazing and only took a few minutes to make!
- Vanilla Latte Sugar Scrub (makes 1 small jar)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup coffee grounds
- 1/2 cup melted coconut oil
- a few drops of vanilla extract
- Peppermint Scrub (makes 1 small jar)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup melted coconut oil
- a few drops of peppermint essential oil (New Seasons has an enormous selection of essential oils)

- First gather all ingredients, along with a medium size bowl, a glass measuring cup and large metal spoon
- Put dry ingredients into bowl
- Spoon a few scoops of coconut oil into measuring cup (it is a solid in cool weather)
- Heat up the measuring cup of solid coconut oil at 15 second intervals until the coconut oil turns to a liquid form (this will take a total of approximately 30-45 seconds)
- Add the liquid coconut oil to the bowl and stir into the dry ingredients
- Stir in the vanilla or peppermint

Hi I am just starting to make and sell scrubs and butters and I wanted to know do you use any preservatives in your scrubs?
Hi Tabrina I didn’t with these (they will keep well for a few months in an airtight jar in a cool dark storage area), but if you would like to lengthen the shelf life of your products I would recommend adding in a few drops of Vitamin E.
Hey
Love the recipe
Can you also include pdf link for the vannilla latte sugar scrub label?
