Felted Heart Magnets

DIY Felted Heart Magnets for Valentine's Day | Evermine Blog | www.evermine.com
Remember when I made Felted Wool Magnets? Well, I just love them on my fridge and thought that a heart-shaped creation would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for my sweetheart.

DIY Felted Heart Magnet Valentine's Day Gifts | Evermine Blog | www.evermine.com
Something this simple really becomes special with unique packaging. In this case, a small metal tin holds the fuzzy heart and my sentiment perfectly.

Felted Heart Magnets
Author: Stephanie Rose
Type: Craft

This is an unexpected and thoughtful Valentine's gift, that has just the right handmade touch!
Ingredients
• Wool roving
• Needle felting tool
• Felting mat
• 1/2″ round craft magnets
• Metal magnet packaging or canning jar snap lid
• Hot glue gun
• 2 oz metal tin
Instructions
1.
2. Start by pulling off a piece of red or pink wool. Don't cut the wool with scissors as it will not felt seamlessly.
3.
4. Gently wind it into the shape of a ball, place on the felting mat, and start poking the wool with the felting tool.
5.
6. When you have a loosely shaped ball, poke the needle into the top a few times to create a indentation. This will be the top of the heart.
7.
8. Lay the wool down now on the felting mat and use your hands to form it into a heart shape.
9.
10. Use the felting needle to knit the fibers together and finish the shaping.
11.
12. Flip the heart a few times to make sure it is even and firm all around.
13.
14. When you are happy with the size and firmness, use a hot glue gun to affix a small round magnet to the back side of the heart. Add sentimental thoughts to a heart shaped label and a round label and attach them to the metal tin. The magnet will stick to the inside of the metal tin even with the labels on so you can be creative with your placement.
Notes
A word of caution: felting needles are S-H-A-R-P. You DO NOT want to stab yourself with them. There is benefit to using the felting mat. While it would be so much more convenient to needle felt right in the palm of your hand, you will certainly only do it once before you bandage yourself up and get a felting mat. A thick piece of foam can also work, but if you are working with children it's best to get them the safest materials possible, and work with them to learn how to stab the wool as opposed to body parts.
