Valentine's Day Recipe: Heart to Heart Cookies | Evermine Blog | www.evermine.com
Today I’m sharing my take on a classic Valentine’s Day treat, the Conversation Heart. I’ve always loved those colorful little heart shaped candies with random sayings on them. Even though I know nobody is actually talking to me with those, I usually like to respond before I pop them in my mouth. For example:

Conversation heart: U R Rad
Me: Oh thanks, I’d say you’re super rad!
Conversation heart: Be Mine
Me: Now hold on, let me think about that. Yes!

You get the point.

Inspired by these conversations hearts, I got the idea to make heart shaped sugar cookies with written messages. They are bigger and have more room for personalized conversations or sayings. I’m calling these my Heart to Heart Cookies, so if you’re into writing a more intimate message to your lovely friends and family for Valentine’s Day, these cookies are for you. All you need are some iced sugar cookies and food decorating pens.

7. In a separate bowl, combine baking powder and flour. Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until dough forms.
8.
9. Divide dough into workable portions. Lightly flour a flat working space and roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
10.
11. Using a variety of heart shaped cookie cutters, cut your cookies and place them on a lined baking sheet.
12.
13. Bake for 8-10 mins. Using a spatula, carefully move the cookies onto a cooling rack.
14.
Ice Cookies:
1.
2. When your cookies are completely cooled, take the cookie icing and create an outline on each cookie then fill the centers.
3.
4. Set the cookies aside and wait about 4 hours (or overnight) to let the icing completely set. In the meantime, sketch out ideas for how you want to design your cookies. I’m creating a mix of personalized messages, some cute expressions and classic conversation heart sayings (I can’t help it), and some patterns and designs for my cookies, but you can always just freestyle as you go or just write from the heart.
Draw on your Cookies:

2. Once your icing has set, it’s time to have some fun with your food pens! These food decorating pens are so brilliant that I wish I had discovered them a lot sooner.
3.
4. The colors came out just like a regular marker, and I love the variety of colors that come in the pack.
5.
6. There is so much that can be done with these. This weekend I decorated a bunch with my niece Zoie and she dove right in. She had a great time drawing little pictures for her mommy and daddy for Valentine’s Day.
7.
8. Who wouldn’t love valentines day messages or drawings especially if they were handwritten or drawn by a loved one and then you can eat it!
