Herbal Sleep Pillows

IMG_6097
I’ve been working with herbs for several years now, exploring ideas that are easy to make at home, novel for most people, practical for most households and, ideally, are super duper tasty. This idea for herbal sleep pillows, while not edible, takes the cake in terms of sweetness, gentleness and simplicity, especially when you make them with your favorite kids in mind!

I love the idea of making several of these herbal sleep pillows—enough for one for each of my nieces and nephews—and giving them as a random, any-time-of-year gift. They’re certainly easy enough to put together in a few minutes, and what tot doesn’t deserve wishes of sweet restful sleep in the form of a tidy pillow full of flowers. The herbs in this particular recipe have long been used to support sleep and relaxation, so hopefully they’ll help the little ones rest easy.

Herbal Sleep Pillows
Author: Lorraine Ferron

Ingredients
  • Small ivory organza bags
  • Chamomile flowers
  • Hops flowers
  • Lavender flowers
Instructions
  1. Combine one tablespoon of each type of flower in each organza bag. CInch the bag tightly and tie the strings in one knot on one side of the bag and a double knot on the other side of the bag.
  2. For a very special touch, add personalized hang tags. Place two hang tags back to back with the holes aligned; thread one of the strings of the hang tag and double knot the string to secure the tags.

Used In This Project:

  • Circle Hang Tags • I chose the “Airplane” style in blue with a special request to remove a text field and include additional text on one of the tags.
