Home Remedy: Sesame Oil for Oil Pulling
What if I told you there may be another way to take care of your teeth? What if there were a simple, easy, health-boosting method to employ, along with brushing, flossing and regular teeth cleaning? You’re into it? Well, read on.
Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic medical practice that is used to strengthen the tissues of the mouth, including teeth, gums and lips; it is said to prevent decay, bad breath, and bleeding gums, and it is also used to improve the senses and “invigorate the mind.” The therapy goes like this: every day, you gently swish a small amount of sesame oil in the mouth for 10-20 minutes, then spit the oil into the waste basket and rinse with water. This is said to clean the mouth by capturing oil-loving particles that may be stuck to the teeth and gums, including bacteria. Learn more about oil pulling here.
If you’re into the idea of another trick to use for oral health, but aren’t into the look of fringe culture, go ahead and make it look slick with some beautiful waterproof evermine labels. I funneled organic sesame oil into 4 oz amber boston round bottles, and pressed on a few labels to create a stately look for my oil pulling ritual in the bathroom.
