Hot Chocolate Truffle Balls
For Valentine’s Day this year, I thought I’d remind my friends and family how much I love them with a sweet chocolate treat to warm their mugs. These truffle balls are made with two simple ingredients, chocolate and heavy cream, and take very little time to prepare. Despite their simplicity, they make the best cup of hot chocolate you’ve ever tasted.
Hot Chocolate Truffle Balls
• 1 Trader Joe’s Pound Plus Dark Chocolate Bar (or 17.6 oz dark chocolate), chopped
• 1 1/3 cups heavy whipping creamPlace chopped chocolate in a bowl and set aside. Heat heavy cream over medium-high, stirring frequently, until just before it comes to a boil. Immediately remove cream from heat and pour over chocolate pieces. Allow mixture to sit for two minutes, and then stir with a whisk until smooth and glossy. Cover bowl with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator until mixture has cooled and hardened.
Remove mixture from refrigerator. Tear off a sheet of wax or parchment paper and lay on a flat surface. Using a large spoon, scoop out the chocolate ganache mixture and place on the wax paper, making sure the scoops are uniform in size (I like to scoop out about two tablespoons worth of chocolate per ball), and evenly spaced. Using clean hands, roll the scoops into balls. At this point, you can package your truffle balls as-is, or you can coat them in cocoa powder, crushed peppermint pieces, or mini-marshmallows. (I coated mine in cocoa powder.)
Wrap each truffle ball individually in plastic wrap. This will be your inner wrap, and will protect your outer packaging from soiling through. Once your truffle balls are covered, wrap once more with decorative paper or cellophane, and secure with ribbon or twine.
Attach personalized tags in your favorite style and color from Evermine, and gift to your friends and family for Valentine’s Day this year. For my Valentine’s Day gifts, I’ve included a cute thrifted mug, and used burgundy colored heart tags, circle tags and square labels in the style Swiss Dots. Optional: you may want to include a text label for your recipients so they know what to do with your gift.

Approximately how many truffles will you get out of a batch? Thinking about making this as our teacher’s/bus driver Christmas gift this year. 6 people x 3-4 truffles, didn’t know if I needed to double or triple the batch.
Hey Stacey,
The recipe should yield you somewhere between 14-18 truffle balls, depending on how big you form them.
Hope that helps!
Lindsay
