There’s no better time to get your kids baking hamantaschen than when they’re still kids! Why?

Tools and materials:
Rolling pin or straight-sided wine bottle
Baking parchment (optional)

- ¾ cup butter
- ¾ granulated sugar
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3½ cups flour
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 large eggs
- raspberry jam
- Beat together the butter, sugar, salt and vanilla extract.
- Add the flour, cornstarch, baking powder and eggs, and mix until the dough comes together.
- Divide the dough in half, forming each half into a plump disc shape and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375 F.
- Generously flour a flat, clean work surface, place the dough in the center and generously flour the top of the dough as well.
- Roll out the dough using a rolling pin or a wine bottle, until it is ⅛" to ¼" thick.
- Use a 2¼" round cookie cutter to cut out circles of dough placing each circle on a baking sheet.
- Place a teaspoon of raspberry jam in the center of each circle.
- Dip your fingers in a little bit of clean water and run them along the outer portion of one circle, until it is damp all the way around.
- Bend three sides of the circle upward and toward the center, pinching together the corners that are created. Pinch gently, but firmly enough to create a seal.
- Repeat the last two steps for each of the dough circles.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes, until the bottoms and sides of the dough become golden brown.
- Some jam may spill from some of the cookies during baking, but that's ok! Keep and enjoy those for yourself and give the pretty ones as gifts!
