Apple cider is a quintessential fall staple, and it’s even more cozy when you warm it up with flavorings, spices and spirits. Whether you’re making home-pressed cider from apples growing in your orchard (lucky you!) or purchasing a gallon of ready made cider from the store, we’ve got three unique and delicious ideas for preparing it nice and warm – perfect for all those upcoming crisp autumn days. 1. Spiced Butter
Hot Apple Cider with Spiced Butter

Ingredients
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ tablespoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- Plastic Wrap
- Apple Cider
Instructions
To make the spiced butter:
- Add the butter, brown sugar, and spices to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until well combined. Place the mixture in the center of a sheet of plastic wrap and shape into a log. Enclose in the plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.
To make Hot Apple Cider with Spiced Butter:
- Warm your apple cider in a saucepan and pour into mugs. Add a pat of the butter to each mug. Stir until butter has dissolved and enjoy!
Notes
To package our spiced butter, we used our large paper favor bags and a personalized Vintage Chalkboard labels.
2. Caramel
Hot Apple Cider with Caramel Syrup

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- ¾ cup water, divided
- 1 teaspoon corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of Salt
- Apple Cider
Instructions
- Add the sugar, ¼ cup of the water and the corn syrup to a small saucepan. Place over low heat until the sugar has dissolved.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and stir occasionally until mixture begins to boil. Reduce heat to medium and continue to simmer, stirring, until mixture has turned a light amber color.
- Remove from heat and add the remaining ½ cup of water while stirring. Add the vanilla and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine and set aside until mixture has cooled completely. Place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
To make caramel apple cider:
- Heat apple cider in a small saucepan and place in mug. Add caramel sauce to taste. Enjoy!
Notes
To package our caramel sauce, we used an airtight glass bottle with a personalized square vintage chalkboard label.
3. Mulling Spices
Hot Apple Cider with Mulling Spices

Ingredients
- 4 cups apple cider
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon cardamom
- 5 whole cloves
- Zest of 1 orange
- Rum (optional)
Instructions
- Place the apple cider in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. When the mixture has become hot (but not boiling) add the spices, and continue to heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, for fifteen minutes. Strain the apple cider into mugs and add a shot of rum to each mug (optional). Enjoy!
