Smarties Diploma Graduation Favors

I am proud to announce that my step-son, Joshua, will be graduating middle school this year. You know what that means? He will be a high schooler soon! Where has the time gone?

I thought up this cute idea for Smarties Diploma Graduation Favors while I was out and about shopping for a girlfriend’s graduation party. I grabbed a big bag of Smarties candy rolls and threw them in my cart. I wasn’t sure how I was going to incorporate them into her graduation theme, but I thought the pun on words was just too cute. When I got home later that day, the kids were all gathered at the table doing arts and crafts, and I oohed and awed at all of their artwork before tucking them into bed. As I was cleaning up after them, I finally thought of a neat idea for the Smarties candy rolls: Homemade Diploma’s!

To make your own Smarties Diplomas, first cut a piece of craft paper that is long enough to roll around the candy a few times, and wide enough to cover the ends of the wrapper. You could also write something inside of these, like a memory, or even a quote. For instance, here is a Dr. Seuss quote that I really like:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

Lay the candy roll lengthwise at the end on your paper and secure it with a small piece of tape. Roll it up and secure the end with a label in the middle (I chose Morocco style envelope seals in deep blue, and customized them to say, “high school bound!”). Finally, tie with a small decorative ribbon that represents the school’s colors.

These were so easy to make! I had the whole bag done in less then 30 minutes. I even found a cute little box that they fit nicely into, but you could also use Evermine’s cellophane bags. Enjoy!
