Are you and your spouse-to-be having a city wedding? Why not greet your out-of-town guests with a welcome basket that will introduce them to the area with local sweets and treats, knick knacks, and a guide to your favorite hot spots?
To help you think of ideas for your own city-themed welcome basket, we’ve scoured Evermine’s very own city of Portland for a few ideas to help inspire you, and we’ve paired them with Evermine’s new Signature Script favor tags, labels, wedding stationery, and matching paper goods for a personal touch:
1. Voodoo Doughnuts
What deep-fried treat is more famous (or innovative?) than Portland’s very own Voodoo Doughnuts. This shop is well-loved throughout the city, and almost always has a huge line of waiting patrons, even at odd hours of the night. Save your guests the hassle of waiting by including a few packaged doughnuts in your basket for your guests to sample. Tip: they fit perfectly inside our large paper favor bags.
2. Lesser Known Local Confections
While Voodoo Doughnuts is renowned for unique, delicious topping combinations, there are plenty of lesser known shops that are worth mentioning to out-of-towners to help them get more acquainted with the area. For instance, Quin, a delightfully quaint candy shop tucked away in an ally-like cluster of shops in the heart of downtown Portland, is easy to overlook while strolling about, but their candies (caramels, lollis, marshmallows and gumdrops to name a few) are too delicious not to try.
3. A Local Beverage
Is your city famous for its root beer? Coffee beans? The city of Portland is definitely famous for its breweries, and hard cider breweries are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, Reverend Nat’s Brewery happens to reside less than a block away from the Evermine office, and is one of our staff’s favorite brands of cider.
4. Personalized Coasters
Pop in a couple personalized wedding photo coasters from Evermine using iconic images of your city to go along with the beverages. They’ll add something extra special to the basket, and your guests can even take them home as keepsakes.
5. Maps and Guides
Although physical maps are less prevalent these days due to the rising popularity of smartphones, they can still be immensely helpful (and somewhat of a novelty for tourists), so we decided to stop by the famous Powell’s Bookstore to see what they had in the way of free maps and pamphlets, and we weren’t disappointed. They have a wide variety of information right inside the lobby at the information desk, and sell loads of cute bookmarks, postcards and magnets which make perfect souvenirs for your out-of-town guests.
6. Personalized Enclosure Cards
Finally, include a personalized enclosure card with a message of welcome for your guests. We thought it would be fun to include a photo of the bride and groom to go with our city’s unnofficial slogan, Keep Portland Weird, but you could also add a sweet message for your guests and/or all the pertinent contact information for your event.
