Rustic outdoor weddings are all the rage. With gorgeous natural elements like wood slice cake stands and wildflower bouquets, a summer outdoor wedding wouldn’t be complete without honey. Especially if that is the pet name for your betrothed!
Honey wedding favors can be created a number of ways. Most simply, you can purchase small jars of honey from a local farm and add a label that denotes your special day. Local honey is a wonderful way to support small farms and give your guests a memento of the location of the nuptials. This tiny gift is not simply a visual reminder, but guests will be able to actually taste the memory of the wedding.
I know it sounds crazy, but our sense of taste is strongly tied to memory, just as it is tied to our sense of smell. Honey bees collect pollen close to their hives, so if the wedding is on a farm that has bees, then the honey will taste like a hint of the flowers that are growing on that farm. The guests may not be tasting the flowers, but as they enjoy the reception they will undoubtedly be taking in the aroma of the plants and earth that surround them.
To make your own honey wedding favors, either purchase small jars of local honey and label as favors, or buy a number of large jars and transfer it into smaller jars. To transfer honey to favor-sized containers, you may need to heat it slightly to make it easier to pour. Use a double boiler to heat the honey and pour through a funnel into the individual jars.
